How are lasers used to treat gum disease?

Dr. Haag will recommend this treatment based on the level of gum disease present. Your hygienist will then go around each tooth and remove any debris and calcified deposits that are adhering to your teeth.

After removing the tartar and calculus, a laser is used to kill the bacteria that cause the gum infection and promote healing of your gums around your teeth. The laser decontaminates/disinfects the infected pocket space by dehydrating the bacteria and literally killing them.
