Earth Day 2023
As we celebrate Earth Day this week, it’s important to recognize the impact our daily habits have on the environment. One area where we can make a difference is in our oral care routine. From toothbrushes to toothpaste tubes, there are many ways we can make our daily oral care habits more environmentally friendly.
-
Choose eco-friendly products. There are now a variety of eco-friendly dental products available, from bamboo toothbrushes to biodegradable dental floss. Look for products that are made from sustainable materials and packaged in recyclable or compostable materials.
-
Turn off the tap. Water is a precious resource, and leaving the tap running while brushing your teeth wastes a lot of it. Turn off the tap while brushing and only turn it on when you need to rinse your mouth or toothbrush.
-
Use less toothpaste. It’s easy to use too much toothpaste, but using more than necessary just creates unnecessary waste. Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, which is enough to clean your teeth and protect your enamel.
-
Recycle your oral care products. Many oral care products, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, are made from plastic that can be recycled. Check with your local recycling program to see if they accept these items and properly dispose of them.
-
Use rechargeable toothbrushes. Battery-operated toothbrushes require disposable batteries, which can be harmful to the environment. Opt for rechargeable toothbrushes instead, which can be charged using a USB port or wall outlet.
-
Support eco-conscious brands. Choose to support brands that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility. Look for companies that use eco-friendly materials, reduce waste in their packaging, and support environmental initiatives.
